- Gather your supplies on a clean surface.
- Wipe the injection site (stomach or thigh) with an alcohol wipe and let it dry.
3. Attaching the Needle
- Remove the pen cap.

- Pull off the inner needle cover and discard it.
4. Priming the Pen (First Use Only)
- Dial to 2 units and press the injection button with the pen pointing upward until a drop appears.

5. Setting Your Dose
- Turn the dial on the pen to your prescribed dose, per your prescribers instructions
6. Giving the Injection
- Pinch a fold of skin on your lower belly (2 inches away from the belly button) or thigh.
- Insert the needle at a 90° angle into the pinched skin.
- Press the button all the way down until the dose counter returns to “0.”
- Hold the pen in place for 5–10 seconds to ensure the full dose is delivered.
- Remove the needle straight out.
7. After the Injection
- Press lightly on the site with a cotton ball or tissue (do not rub).
- Replace the outer cap on the needle and carefully unscrew it from the pen.
- Place the used needle into your sharps container (or hard plastic bottle with a screw-top lid, such as a Gatorade bottle).
- Store your pen in the refrigerator (do not freeze, do not store in the door).
8. Disposal of Needles
- When your container is about ¾ full, tape the lid shut securely.
- Label: “Used Sharps – Do Not Recycle”.
- Dispose according to your local pharmacy or health department guidelines.
